How to Clean Hookah Hoses

This can often be a problem affecting your smoking pleasure. If your hose produces ash as you suck through it or if there is a permanent nasty taste (regardless of how much you clean the hookah) then you may need to clean the hoses. Generally hookah hoses will have a rubber or cardboard hose. You can clean both, but the cardboard ones have a very finite life span.

When cleaning it, just run water through the hose in the bathtub. This can be done in a sink, but it’s a little tricky. Run water through it until the water comes out clear. After this, crunch up the hose, or swing it around a little (the goal is to get it flex all around the tube) and repeat this process until you can flex it and rinse it with no dirty water coming out. After this is done, blow through the hose to get rid of some excess water and hang the hoses up to dry. You should notice a dramatic increase in smoke quality after this.

This will also rust the hose. There is no real win win situation here. There are cleanable hookah hoses that are lined with plastic and stainless steal to prevent the rust.

Thank you so much for the “flexing” tip. I also found a good way to clean all that blackish brown gunk out of the hose. After you flex and crunch the hose you take a huge mouthfull of listerine and blow as hard as you can in the hose. I found that my hose was still smelling great and clean for close to 3 uses and about 15 bowls

So iv’e been smoking hookah for 2 ish years, and then last semester i was smoking one day and i was not enjoying it, so i rinsed out the hose, but it didn’t do anything. I am also a beer brewer so i just happened to have some clear plastic tubing lying around, so i tried that and it was amazing. Whats also awesome about this tubing is that it cost 20 ish bucks for 20 ‘ which will last you a long damn time. So if you want a great smoke and you dont’ mind your hose looking ghetto then use plastic tubing from homedepot.

Yeah, hookah hoses just get nasty after a while. Most of them have a cardboard/paper tubing inside of them to keep them from being too flimsy, but it just absorbs nastiness and makes it really hard to clean. You can find some hoses that are all rubber that are much easier to clean, or you just have to get new hoses.

I like your idea though. I’ll have to try it out sometime ;)
